Project title: Bioanalytical and Imaging Applications Based on Optical Properties of Lanthanide Metal Ions

Researcher : Ivana Martinic

Supervisor name: Prof. Dr. Stéphane Petoud

Project description

Objectives:
Analyse performances of luminescent lanthanide compounds for bioanalytical and biological applications with a special emphasis on near-infrared (NIR) luminescence.  Biological imagining will include cellular imaging.  Spectroscopy, microscopy and microscopy techniques will be used.
Tasks and methodology:
Spectroscopy (measurements of excitation and emission spectra, quantum yields and luminescence lifetimes) at different temperatures.  Luminescent reporters will be tested in solid state, solution and in cells.
Evaluation of solubility in biological media
NIR microscopy and confocal microscopy
Analysis of cytotoxicity
Analysis of cellular incorporation (quantitative) – fluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy, fluorescence assisted cell sorting (FACS), ICP.
Analysis of cellular localization
Analysis of cellular toxicity in presence of light
.
